The best and the safest way to download this software is to do it via the official website www.avs4you.com. The trial version is quite a hefty download at 150mb although a fast broadband connection only takes a few minutes. The present version (6.3) was released in November 2012 so no updating should be necessary.
For those of us who like to dive I without testing the water (and I’m one L)I’d say don’t as this program hides a wealth of features . The program vendors provide a set of guides on their site for beginners and I advise taking the time to read these documents.
The link is here
NB This software does not support the copying of protected material, i.e. DVDs etc.
The software downloads and installs with no problems and on execution you are presented with the following screen showing available options-:
When you click the import files there is a plethoria of formats supported including High Definition input. The text ‘All supported media/video/images/audio’ is printed in the drop down box , a concise list of formats can be found here As is seen there are a plethoria of input formats available. There is also the choice of webcam capture or screen capture to edit. This is also a good time to set the aspect of the project [4-3 or 16-9] to avoid problems.
The program states its aimed at beginners, however the wealth of features found makes this piece of software very usable…the transitions pane has many options including rotate, flip, shatter, diffuse, fade and mosaic to mention a few. Other options available are video effects, text, voice clips, and menu creation. The video clip may also be trimmed here to remove unwanted segments such as advertising if for example an external video source [TV tuner card] was used as input.
The disk menu option when chosen allows one to be created but firstly the content must be downloaded as per the picture as only the first few choices are installed. I didn’t download the AVS content file package due to the size [192mb] The ‘travel’ menu option was selected and experimented with, double clicking allows full screen editing . At this point music or speech may be added to the menu and a background chosen
One nice point about this program is the depth of support provided. In addition to the program help, the online guide and online help a series of ‘How to’ videos has been produced, have a look here at how to add a title to your video. A full listing of how to videos for AVS Video Editor can be found at this page
After all the editing and additions have been done the video clip can be produced by clicking the produce button. The following options screen is displayed:
The production options enable you to
1 Save to file using the different formats available.
2 Make a cd or dvd
3 Save to your external device
4 Upload the finished file to your preferred social network site
After choosing ‘You Tube’ the available options the next screen is shown:
To finish, set the options on this write dialogue box and should the file be very large the easiest option is to let run through the night and tick the Shutdown computer circle In conclusion, I think the program succeeds in many ways, there are so many options and possibilities it’s difficult to state them all , suffice to say the programme aspires to produce high quality video at a reasonable price and exceeds its in its aspirations A well written piece of software that gives the same possibilities for something that could cost much more…… .Enjoy
