[Contest] Kaspersky Internet Security 2012

[Contest] Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, new giveaway for our blog

| June 3, 2012

Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 delivers premium protection from viruses, Trojans, spam, hackers, and more. Its cutting-edge, hybrid approach to digital security combines innovative, cloud-based technologies with advanced antivirus protection to deliver a faster, more effective response to today’s complex, ever-evolving threats. You, your private data and PC are completely protected as you work, bank, shop and play online.

Kaspersky Internet Security continues to provide users with a high level of protection that includes security tools not offered by many competitors. The 2012 version won’t change the face of personal computer security, although this particular package of security options and top-shelf performance has attracted enough devotees to make it a best-selling program, both in and out of the security field.

False positives are largely a nonissue: Kaspersky’s product misidentified only one safe file out of a pool of 250,000 files as dangerous. And the suite was effective at disinfection, detecting and disabling all sample infections on our test PC. It removed all traces of malware 60 percent of the time, performing slightly above average in that regard.

It was faster than average, however, at scanning. It completed an on-demand scan (which runs when you manually click the ‘Scan Now’ button) of 4.5GB of data in 1 minute, 11 seconds–the third-best showing, and a considerably better result than the average of 1 minute, 59 seconds for the suites we looked at. It wrapped up on-access scanning (which kicks off when you open or save a file) of 4.5GB of data in 4 minutes, 40 seconds, about 8 seconds faster than average.

The interface has been updated from last year’s darker colours to a light turquoise, white and green skin, with handy icons on the opening window providing access to core features, such as the on-demand scanner, manual signature update, and parental controls. Scrolling right allows you to view shortcuts to less critical features, including a virtualised sandbox for running risky or unknown programs, a monitoring tool for your local network and a virtual keyboard that guarantees malicious keyboard loggers can’t steal your passwords for services such as online banking. The main settings menu provides control of core features such as email virus scanning and spam filtering and your firewall, as well as less critical features including a web ad banner blocker.

The most notable improvement in Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 is its new cloud-based detection network. It sends data anonymously to Kaspersky’s servers, where a combination of automatic and manual processes figure out whether that new program you’ve downloaded is safe or not. The point of cloud-based detection is to lighten the suite’s load on your system, while providing faster real-time defense.

The System Watcher was introduced last year as fancy name for the refurbished system log. The Roll Back feature has been punched up in 2012, so the suite can now easily undo or rollback damage caused by any malware that does slip through, and the Network Monitor feature shows you real-time traffic to and from your computer.

The File Advisor is a Windows Explorer context menu option for checking out a file’s reputation without having to go through the main Kaspersky program itself. It creates a pipeline from the Kaspersky Security Network, or KSN, to the files on your desktop.

The biggest (and sometimes the only) reason to upgrade to an Internet Security suite like KIS 2012 over a standard anti-virus suite is the inclusion of parental controls. Kaspersky has historically done a respectable job in this area and the controls included in KIS 2012 are no exception.

All of this is rolled into a package that, when running in the background, occupies a mere 127MB. If the particulars of internet security make your eyes glaze over, you’re better off with Trend Micro or AVG. But for technical mavens, the degree of low-level control that Kaspersky delivers is worth the price.

Kaspersky provides highly effective protection against malware, and no longer requires the level of fine-tuning that previous versions once did to prevent it from interfering with the day-to-day running of your computer.

Pure security for your pc. Nothing is better a at the moment. Highly recommended.

Can slow down your pc while scanning, but not a problem. Better a little slowness during the scan than getting attacked by malware.

The best Internet Security Suite on the market. That’s it.
