| April 20, 2013

TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 is a video encoder that allows you to convert, edit, enhance, output and more. It is easy to use with two modes normal and timeline mode which depending on the type of editing you are doing it provides you the features you need. The quality of the videos comes out very good and better than most, there is little to no distortions to the videos which is really good as no loss of quality.

TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 interface is easy to use and provides step by step in adding and editing your videos. It shows you what you can do and what can be done without much help. It does provide advanced features which might need knowledge of the way it works but that you can use the help. But if you leave it on basic you are able to still create, edit, convert videos and still keep your video in high quality.

TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 starts up by letting you select a new project and selecting the mode you want to use, Normal or Time Line mode. You can also edit the advanced tools were you can customize the MPEG Structure, project checker tool and proxy file. The preference is your settings which lets you change up to what folders to output and use for temporary files. The preference also allows you to see and change the scene change detection, clip default settings, how TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 uses the CPU and GPU, the formats, etc.

When starting a project, you get to choose from where to select the clip/s, you have several options from files, from a DVD, BD, HDD Camcorder, etc., from a stream file, recorded TV program and much more. If you are adding many clips you can skip the clip addition and edit those later after all are inputted to the program. If only one you are introduced to the clip addition where you can edit the properties of the clip, cut-edit, and add filters. After configuring the video you are able to insert more files, add a slide show, edit the other clips, timeline editor, etc.

After adding and fixing up the video using the editing or timeline feature you can select the output source to which you will be outputting. You have a selection from output templates or you can select from generic formats or customize your output. When you have selected the type of output, you can select the type of video system, format type, size/aspect ratio/frame rate settings, etc. You also have the ability to change encode/bitrate settings which can come in handy to those that like to modify their video output.

Once output is selected you can configure the settings for the specific output format. Which if you are ok with the settings you can move on to the encode but if there are some specifics that you need to change, TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 lets you to edit and configure the output. When you reach the encoding section you have options, you can start the export or run the preview to see if that’s how your video would look like.

The encoding of the video would take about the same time the video is so if video is 2 hours and 20 minutes the encoding would take around that time. The PC that was used to test the encoding was done on an Intel Core i7 2.0 GHz, 8 GB Ram, 120GB SSD/750GB Hybrid Drive and AMD Radeon 6770 1GB. The time it took for an 8GB video file which time is 2 hrs. and 20 minutes took to encode to about 2 hours and 30 minutes which was encoding to an external drive which was quite good time which quality of the video came out great with no distortion of video or audio quality and you can enjoy the video or movie you have created. Most others I’ve tried had a small flaw with distorting the video or audio quality. Time could be lower on most others but with a drawback of lower quality conversion. So with TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 your video comes out great.

TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 accepts various inputs and can output too several formats, some new formats include native H.264 stream FLV file, FLAC, and outputs from Blu-Ray discs, and formats from MKV, H.264, PlayStation Vita, iPad and more.  If you have Blu-Ray writer, TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 has been the one that works the best at writing video files to Blu-Ray discs which is why this is one of the best ones to look for.

Thoughts and Conclusion

TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 is one of the best video encoder that I’ve tested which really brings out the quality of the video to its best. There is little or no distortion depending on how you set up the output and it is one of the best Blu-ray encoder which encodes and burns the video to Blu-ray in high-quality which makes it look like you had it send to a professional. I would recommend giving it a try at tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/.
